Her most famous love affair was with a handsome mortal, Endymion. One night on her journey through the Sky, Selene saw him lying asleep in a cave on Mount Latmos, in Caria, and at once she fell in love with him. Because of her divine favour, Zeus allowed Endymion to choose whatever fate he wished, and he chose to sleep for ever, remaining always young. Every night Selene would visit him in his cave and gaze upon his beauty, or else awaken him to fulfill her desires. According to Pausanias (5.I.4) she bore him fifty daughters. March 2008, p 31
